The ICC has confirmed the schedule for the 2027 ODI World Cup, and India’s path is set. The tournament gets underway in early October 2027 and runs to the final on November 21, co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. India open against Australia in Cape Town on October 7, a rematch of the 2023 final they lost in Ahmedabad. India will be chasing a third ODI World Cup title, 16 years on from their 2011 win.

Note: The Super 7 schedule is conditional. The fixtures above apply only if India finish first in Group A (A1); opponents and venues change if they qualify as A2 or A3. Group-stage points do not carry over into this round.

India’s group stage packs five matches into 17 days. The campaign opens with back-to-back marquee games against Australia and Pakistan, before meeting Afghanistan, a qualifier, and co-hosts Zimbabwe. A top-three finish in Group A sends India into the Super 7, where points reset and every side plays six fresh games. The table above traces India’s Super 7 route if they top the group as A1. Finish in the top four of that stage and a semi-final place is sealed.

The 14-team field narrows to 12 for the group stage. Three of the lowest-ranked sides first meet in a preliminary Super Series in Windhoek, Namibia, on October 2, 4, and 6, with only the winner joining the main draw. The 12 teams are then split into two groups of six. India headline Group A with Australia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, and a qualifier. Group B lines up South Africa, New Zealand, England, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and the second qualifier.

How India is Preparing For ICC ODI World Cup 2027

India’s build-up runs across four confirmed bilateral series, with a fifth under discussion. The home series against West Indies has already opened the cycle, followed by an away tour of New Zealand and home ODIs against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. The marquee preparation is a proposed six-match ODI tour of South Africa in 2027, timed just before the World Cup to help India adjust to the host conditions.

Verdict – India Will Be Ready To Take Revenge From Australia on 7th October 2027

India’s preparation is built around one early target: Australia on October 7 in Cape Town. The pain of the 2023 final, when Australia chased down India’s 240 in Ahmedabad to end an otherwise unbeaten run, still lingers. A full ODI calendar across home and away conditions, capped by a proposed South Africa tour, is designed to leave India battle-hardened for African pitches. With a point to prove against the defending champions, India will walk out at Newlands with revenge on their minds on October 7, 2027.
