Rain has already reshaped the 2026 North American Cup before a proper match could get underway. The opening fixture between Cayman Islands and Bermuda was abandoned without a toss on September 20, and the following day’s game between Bahamas and Cayman Islands never got started either.

ICC Americas has now pushed the action into a tighter window at Jimmy Powell Oval in George Town, with Cayman Islands hosting Bahamas and Bermuda in this second edition of the tournament, after the United States and Canada both sat out this year.

North American Cup 2026 Format and Participating Teams

Three teams make up this year’s field, down from the previous edition, and they play a double round robin before the knockout stage decides the trophy.

  • Cayman Islands, Bahamas and Bermuda each play the other twice in the group stage
  • The second place and third place finishers meet in a qualifier
  • The group stage winner goes straight through to the final
  • The qualifier winner then faces the group winner for the title

The United States and Canada both featured in the 2025 edition but sit out this year’s competition. None of these three squads carry the household names on show at Canada Super 60 2026 Schedule or among the Top 10 Richest Cricketers in the World, but the stakes still matter plenty for players trying to build a career in Americas region cricket. Why the Tournament Moved to September

Organisers originally planned this competition for April 2026, well before this week’s weather trouble ever entered the picture.

ICC Americas pushed the event back after international fixture clashes and logistical issues made the April window unworkable, then confirmed the revised three team format in August 2026. That August announcement also confirmed the United States and Canada would not return to defend their places from the debut edition. (Source: Wikipedia)

Cayman Islands Look to Turn Home Advantage Into a Final Berth

Two washed out matches have already left their mark on the 2026 North American Cup, and Cayman Islands now carry the extra burden of squeezing a full schedule into a shorter week at their own ground.

Bermuda and Bahamas both arrive with just as much to prove, given a top two finish is the only route past the qualifier and into the final. Once ICC Americas locks in firm times for the rearranged fixtures, the group stage picture should move fast.
