West Indies touch down in India for a bumper white ball assignment, and it doubles as one of the clearest form checks India get before the 2027 ODI World Cup. Three ODIs and five T20Is run from September 27 to October 17, 2026, spread across eight different cities.

Shubman Gill leads the 50 over side while Shreyas Iyer takes charge of the T20I group, and the tour also kicks off a genuinely packed home season for India that stretches across 17 venues before the year is out.

India Squads for the West Indies Series

The men in blue named separate squads for the two formats, a clear sign the team management wants to test options ahead of the 2027 World Cup.

India ODI Squad: Shubman Gill (captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ruturaj Gaikwad (wicketkeeper), KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Mohammed Siraj, Auqib Nabi, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Naman Dhir.

India T20I Squad: Shreyas Iyer (captain), Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav (vice captain), Axar Patel (wicketkeeper) and Washington Sundar.

Ravindra Jadeja returns to the ODI setup for the first time since a 50 over international in January, and Naman Dhir and Auqib Nabi both earn first call ups to the format.

Nitish Kumar Reddy also joins the ODI squad after a release from India’s Asian Games Cricket 2026 Men’s and Women’s Schedule commitments.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli both keep their places too, giving the side a strong core of senior experience through this buildup phase.

West Indies Squad for the Tour

Cricket West Indies has now confirmed separate squads for the ODI and T20I legs, and Shai Hope captains both.

West Indies ODI Squad: Shai Hope (captain), Jewel Andrew, John Campbell, Keacy Carty, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Justin Greaves, Amir Jangoo, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Vitel Lawes, Gudakesh Motie, Keemo Paul, Sherfane Rutherford and Jayden Seales.

West Indies T20I Squad: Shai Hope (captain), Jewel Andrew, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Shimron Hetmyer, Akeal Hosein, Shamar Joseph, Gudakesh Motie, Keemo Paul, Kamil Pooran, Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford, Quentin Sampson, Romario Shepherd and Shamar Springer.

Seven players make both squads, including Roston Chase, Matthew Forde and Sherfane Rutherford, while Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell and Kamil Pooran come in purely for the power hitting the T20I format demands. (Source: Cricbuzz)

What Comes Next for Team India

This tour is only the opening chapter of a long home season for India.

Once the West Indies series wraps up, India host Sri Lanka for three ODIs and three T20Is from December 13 to 27. Both series sit inside a wider 2026 to 27 home campaign that runs to 22 international matches across 17 venues, covering five Tests, nine ODIs and eight T20Is in total. Away from India’s own calendar, the global game stays just as busy, from the Canada Super 60 2026 Schedule to a string of white ball leagues running in parallel. (Source: BCCI)

India Turn to the White Ball Grind With the World Cup in Sight

Eight cities, eight matches and just over three weeks give India their first real look at squad options for the 2027 ODI World Cup, even with West Indies’ own touring group still to be confirmed. Ravindra Jadeja’s ODI return, Nitish Kumar Reddy’s switch from the Asian Games squad and uncapped picks like Naman Dhir add real selection intrigue on the India side.

Once Cricket West Indies names its squad, the series stops being a one team story and starts looking like the genuine World Cup dress rehearsal both boards want it to be.
